Citizen Science
Citizens are increasingly participating in scientific projects – for example, by reporting any wild animals that they have spotted in the city, as in the StadtWildTiere project.
The active involvement of non-scientists in such projects is referred to as citizen science. The advantage of citizen science is that researchers have much larger data volumes to work with, improving their research results. Citizens, too, benefit by learning more about the topic at hand and the scientific approaches used.
Following FVB institutes are also involved in citizen science projects:
- Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB)
- Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research (IZW)
The Leibniz Association also engages in a wide range of citizen science activities.
